Couples Life Expectancy Calculator | Joint Survival Probability
A joint life expectancy calculator for couples planning retirement. Estimate the probability that at least one spouse survives to a given age based on actuarial tables.
How joint survival is calculated
Each partner's chance of surviving the chosen number of years is built from approximate annual death probabilities for the general North American population by age and sex. The two are then combined assuming they are independent: the chance that at least one partner survives is 1 minus the chance that neither does.
In reality spouses' risks are somewhat linked through shared lifestyle and environment, so treat the result as a rough population estimate for planning conversations, not an actuarial quote.
Results are statistical estimates based on population-level research, not individualized medical advice. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before making health decisions.
